Great Trail

Picture
Click here for a virtual tour of the camp, researched, photographed, and organized by a Strongsville Girl Scout.   It takes a few minutes to download - but is well worth the wait.

Great Trail Camp: Note - the name is singular.  The name is not about hiking trails, but the main throughway of Native tribes through North East Ohio. Great Trail Camp is a Lou Henry Hoover Memorial Forest and Sanctuary.

The camp is divided into two sections that touch at one point.

Renkert Lodge at Great Trail Camp is named for Guy Renkert, who today leads Ironrock as its President and CEO.

  • Read Mr. Renkert's letterto GSNEO disapproving of the sale of Great Trail Camp.

Great Trail Camp was slated to be closed in 2009, but the Friends group, Camp Friends, was formed and negotiated with GSNEO to keep half of the camp open, while the other half remains currently off limits to campers.
